Back to work!!!
This week we will continue to practice for the NYS Math test. Students will be getting homework every night. Please check out the links on the left. Most of them are games, they all reinforce skills we have worked on in school.
Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for February 28th from 3:30 - 5:30...These are NOT the only opportunities to discuss scholar's progress. Please e-mail or phone me with any questions you may have.

7th grade honors: We are working on surface area and volume of 3-D shapes, and how to use formulas.

8th grade: We are working on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing polynomials. Ask your child what a polynomial is.

Week of Feb. 18th - 22nd

WINTER BREAK!!!

Sorry, but all of my students were sent home with a huge packet of review work that is due the day they get back. Please make sure that it is completed. I will be adding more review sites and games to the links at left. PLEASE CHECK them out.

7th Graders -
There are several review classes offered for the NYS 7th grade math test. I would really like all of the 7th graders to sign up for AT LEAST ONE of the review sessions.

They are
Tues. Feb 26th 2 - 3:30
Fri. Feb 29th 2 - 3:30
Sat. March 1st 9 - 12:00
Tues. March 2nd 2 - 3:30

The 7th graders are at a disadvantage because they have been studying 8th grade math this year and may have forgotten many of the concepts from last year. Parents...please e-mail me, or call me with what dates you would like your scholar to attend.

8th Graders -
At this point there are no extra review classes, however we have been reviewing concepts in Math class, and we will be doing review in homebase all next week. Make sure that you work on your homework packet over vacation.

Math Fun

Week of February 4th - Feb 8th

We had a quiz last Friday and most scholars did well, all of the scholars are to have their parent sign their test and show it to me.

Monday...We will finish up our unit on Percents with a lesson on interest rates, students will have to find some examples of interests rates for homework.

Tuesday...We will be doing a practice run of the state test in the computer lab. The Honors 7 students will be taking the 7th grade practice and the 8th graders will be taking the 8th grade.

Wednesday - Friday...We will be using algebra to find missing angles. Important concepts to know are parallel, supplementary, corresponding, vertical and congruent. There will be homework Wed and Thursday.

FYI...the NYS Math assessment will be March 6th and 7th. Beginning next week, The 7th grade honors students will take a break from 8th grade work to review 7th grade concepts. The 8th graders will review what we have been working on this year.

Many of the students are struggling with rounding numbers to the nearest hundredth (2 spaces to the right of the decimal). Please feel free to practice a few with you child. It drives me nuts when they do all of the difficult algebra, only to get the problem wrong due to rounding!
