The NYS test is Thursday March 6th and Friday March 7th.
There will be a contest for perfect attendance on those days...Make sure you are here! Calculators will be needed for part of the test and must have a square root button and a pi key.
Thursday March 6th: Part I (7th and 8th grade)...There will be 30 multiple choice questions. We have discussed that 1 will be the correct answer and that 1 will be a distracter...the one that shows the difference between the scholar who knows what they'r doing and the scholar who is a good guesser. We have also talked about strategies like process of elimination. There is NO calculator for this part and students must bring a #2 pencil. There is no partial credit given.
Part II (8th grade only) read description below. 8th graders WILL need a calculator for this part.
Friday March 7th: Part II (7th grade) and Part III (8th grade only)... This is the extended response portion of the test. Students should use calculators for these sections. Each question is worth either 2 or 3 point. Scholars need to show ALL there work and can earn partial credit.
Scoring is basically as follows:
3 point question
3 points: if perfect...all work is shown, questions are answered correctly
2 point: if mostly correct
1 point: some correct work, correct answer but no work
0 points: no work, work shown but makes no sense, correct answer but work does not support answer
2 point question
2 points: perfect...all work is shown, questions are answered correctly
1 point: any correct work but any little mistake will keep it from being a 2, correct answer but no work, correct answer but work does not support answer
0 points: no work, work shown but makes no sense
There will be homework Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Scholars should be reviewing there notes and review packets...Eat lot's of ice cream on Wednesday and Thursday night, and a hearty breakfast on Thursday and Friday.
